Good Writing

As in the words of Somerset Maugham ( one of my favorite writers, ever since I read his short stories as a teenager, a long time ago):

“A good style should show no sign of effort. What is written should seem a happy accident.”

Unfortunately, the “happy accident” happens only after hours of painstaking work, rewrites, listening to friends and family critics, etc etc. I am finding out the hard way.

That’s so true! What are you doing with your writing? Yesterday I finally sent in my essay from our class to a magazine. Feels great to take that first big step. Good luck to you!

Sommerset Maughm, one of my favorites as well…

Isnt that true for about anything in life – sports, performance arts, painting, list can go on and on

BD: Yes, true. But I guess Somerset Maugham being a writer commented on what he knew best!
